Index of Botanical Specimens
Of the over 5 million specimens in the Harvard University Herbaria, over 180,000 have records in the database system of which about 100,000 correspond to type specimens of vascular plants and bryophytes.
Fields marked % do an exact match search unless * or % is added as a wildcard. Other fields do wildcard searches. For plant names, enter search keys in any combination to qualify the name: family/higher taxon, genus, specific epithet, and infraspecific epithet. Results are inclusive, so it is possible to search for all specimens in a genus, for example. Searching for types only will include type specimens whose basionym corresponds to the search parameters. For type specimens, select the kind of type from ‘type status’ or use the collective term ‘any type’ to search across all types. Enter a collector's name in any form. For location, enter a single placename of a country or a smaller geopolitical entity. If a barcode number is entered, all other search parameters will be ignored.
